Failures are common in our lives. We are now living in a competitive society in which there are many things we can’t be sure of. If we try to explore a new field, and if we don’t make enough preparations in advance while doing anything, we will usually be greeted by failures.
Different people take different attitudes towards failure. Some give up in face of failure while others persevere in what they are doing in spite of failures. Those who aren’t afraid of failure and those who can learn from failure can finally make their dreams come true.
I don’t think failure is a bad thing. I firmly believe in the popular saying: Failure is the mother of success. Each time I failed, I would drive away depression and keep on trying. I also believe in the old saying: Fire proves gold and adversity proves man.

Firstly, the wealth of rich nations is not only in money but also in knowledge. Thus rich nations can help teach poorer nations to help themselves. The saying “give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime” applies here.
Moreover, some poor nations need aid immediately. Although giving cash and food might only solve short term problems these problems must not be overlooked.
On the other hand, some people feel that poor nations should learn to help themselves and it is not the responsibility of rich nations to help them. If poor nations continually accept food and money they might become lazy and expect things to be thrown into their easy lap. The traditions of poor nations might be changed to become more modern and developed. Nevertheless, in hard times nations cannot afford to be too proud, rather they need to consider practical realities.
To sum up, rich nations should aid poor nations with money and education. Money should be shared, not kept under the greedy pretense of salvation.

Some people think that life would be better if the media reported more good news. However, I do not agree with this point of view.
Firstly, it is important to remember that the media’s reports reflect the realities at the world. Thus, if the world is in a terrible state, then newspapers, radio, and TV will report this information to the public.
Secondly it is necessary to consider why more bad news is chosen to be reported than good news. Newspapers are not only a source of information they are also a commodity. This is to say, news editors must decide to report things that will attract the consumer’s attention.
On the other hand, some people feel the media does not only reflect the state of the world, rather the media has a hand in shaping it. If the media reported more hopeful and inspiring stories, then their readers would be positively affected.
It is important to remember that news is drawn from reality and that the public tends to be drawn to awful news. Thus, reporting more good news will not change reality nor will it necessarily change people’s news interests.

Secondly, there is a growing dissatisfaction particularly in the west with money and materialism
In my opinion, I do not think having several careers is the new fashion. These qualities are a part of human nature, in everyone of us to some degree, and for this reason I believe having multiple careers throughout life will never be popular.

Nuclear power stations provide an important source of cheap power for many industrialized nations and some developing countries. However, there is always the danger of radiation leaking from these plants.
The most worrying aspect of nuclear technology, however, is its use for military purposes. Enough atomic bombs have already been built to completely destroy the planet.

When we say the world is too dependent on oil, we are not exaggerating. One good starting point to prove this would be transportation. We know that cars, ships , locomotives and airplanes are all driven by oil. If the oil supply is cut off someday, the whole transportation system will be paralyzed.
Since the transportation system is the lifeline of a country’s economic activities, its paralysis would lead to the collapse of the economy, either industry or farming or daylife.
Furthermore, it is risky to base our world solely on oil. This is because oil reserves are diminishing. Besides , the supply is sometimes affected by political interests. For example, a few years age, when OPEC countries refused to export their oil, many other countries were thrown into chaos. Had the latter been less dependent on oil, the situation might have been completely different. It is certainly not nonsense to say that a world without oil would be a world without peace.
That is why we say the world is too dependent on oil.

Social welfare is an essential element of an advanced society. Good systems are always abused, but that does not mean they are faulty. In my opinion, the two main reasons why welfare payments are necessary are as follows:
First of all, critics forget that there are many forms of welfare besides payments to the unemployed. Their negative opinions harm those who are not capable of earning a wage, such as single parent mothers, the disabled, and the sick.
The second reason is that crime increases when people have no means of support. The desperately poor inevitably turn to crime, which is not only dangerous but costly.
Certain members of society believe that people should look after themselves. They point out that welfare increases dependency on others and destroys dignity. This may be true, but in the case of the unemployed, the relief payments are usually temporary. It is surely the fault of the government if there are long-term unemployed.
Without welfare payments the poor are destined to become poorer. The first duty of a government is to provide a financial safety net for all disadvantaged persons, and that includes those without work.

This one does not damage my clothes any more, but I have found that it tangles the clothes seriously and when it automatically begins to spin the water out, the machine shakes so heavily that it stops by itself. Book-selling of the University Book Store
The table shows the sales figures of fiction books, non-fiction books, and magazines in a college bookshop for February 1998. The figures are divided into two groups: sales to non-Book Club members and to Book Club members.
The non-Book Club member figures comprise sales to college staff, college students, and members of the public. College staff bought 332 magazines, 44 fiction and 29 non-fiction books. College students bought 1249 magazines, 194 non-fiction and 31 fiction books. More magazines were sold to college students than to any other group of customers. Although no fiction books were sold to members of the public, they purchased 122 non-fiction books and 82 magazines.
Book Club members bought more fiction (76) and non-fiction books (942) than other customers. On the other hand, magazine sales to Club members (33) were fewer than to any other type of customer.
The total number of publications sold for the month was 3134 (1474 to college students, 405 to staff, 204 to the public, and 1051 to Book Club members). Of this figure, 151 items were fiction books and 1287 were non-fiction. Therefore, magazines accounted for the greatest number of sales (1696).
