为何选择这所学校
转专业的原因，一定要认真准备，老美问了我两次are you determined?
研究经历（具体内容）
大段的自我介绍
如何支付学费及生活费，我说希望得到学校的资助，他竟然告诉我录取委员会除了要考虑qualification以外，也要考虑到学生的经济能力。
你都学过哪些数学课程（俺紧张得要命，微积分怎么说都忘了）
1．所有问题都没有超出寄托家园精华区2003留学美国电话面试集锦的范围，建议大家面试前认真准备，然后把答案贴在墙上。
2．跃洋长途比市话还要清晰，感觉就像TOEFL听力，没能用上那句经典的sorry, the phone line is not clear.
3．一定要熟记ps的内容，老美喜欢问一些细节问题。
4．没有一个专业问题。
5．准备好自己要问的。
6．有条件最好录下来，对日后的面试有所帮助。

印度鬼的英语真叫难懂！！！
尽管前一天让同学帮忙找了一个巴基斯坦人熟悉口音，觉得他的英语已很重，虽难懂但还是能听明白。可那印度教授的口音还要重，国际长途电话又不太清楚。并且不知教授觉得我紧张后他也紧张还是先天的，他竟然还说的有点结巴！faint to death!!!
开始。。。
P：Are you XXX(听起来就绝对不像俺名字，俺就认了)
I：yee, you must be professor XXX, how are you?
P: Is it 11 at china now(还很准时)。
I：yes，just a few minute past 11.
他开始发镖了：
P：#$%%^^^*()0*&(开始听不明白了)
I：Sorry, the phone line is not clear, would you please speak louly?
P: Ok, @##$%^&&(还是faint，好像是说what kind of wok you like to do 之类)
I：俺还是不明白，但也不敢让他再说一遍了，只得当他是问试验或分析工作了
P：what you like, experimental of analytical? (Faint, 原来这才是问这经典问题，刚才弄错了！！！！。赶紧再补充的说一些，俺也慌了)
P：好像是说could you describe something about your work at XXXX university(校名听起来也不知是那各学校了)
I: 俺更慌了，应为俺的ps中写的方向和他的方向根本不一样，只得说出项目的名字。
P: OK,
I：我想问个问题缓一下就道：could you introduce something about your current projects?
P; It is a big problem, I have many projects and in different areas. (kao,那么多项目就直接给钱呗，还面试俺干嘛，faint again). What is you want to do?(好像是这样)
I: I am interested in your research, especially in XXXX.
P: ok, but I can’t decide ##### yet。（拷，不知是决定啥，offer 或以后的项目）他接下去又是一堆话，还是听不明白。
I：beg you pardon
P: 2＃￥＃％￥（还是不明白他想说啥）
I：俺只好enenen的混过去。
P：＃＃＃￥％％又是一堆听不懂的话,但不是上面那堆
I：俺只好又sorry, pardon
P：又一遍，好像是说他们系（还是他自己）去年又几个大陆学生签证被拒。
I：俺很想说你给钱就是了俺自己去摆平签证，还是没敢说。只说yes.
P: 好像是说他下周要干啥似的。然后说I will send you a email next week.（可能就是据信了。。。。）
I:这回俺还是听懂最后一句，只是觉得咋这么快就结束了，就表示惊奇的说声what？
P：以为我没听明白，就又说了一遍。
I：Ok，thank you for you call.
总共不到10分钟。网上很多人都说面试又3,4十分钟。可能是他觉得跟俺根本无法交流就断了。。。。唉。觉得很不爽。俺申请的是RA,希望能影响小一点。
大家就当是反面教材。唉。。还是多准备。

建议：
1：不要紧张，俺越紧张越听不进去。
2：国际电话声音有些滞后，不要急，不要像俺好几次和对方抢话说。
3：精华区里的一些经典问题还是好好准备，写好贴在墙上。
4：要是对方是非美国人，要有点思想准备。尽量找各这个国家的老外。可惜俺找不到印度人。
4：面试后，我的一个同学说可以在你的电话上连一个分机，叫个牛人旁听，他不说话但可通过写字来帮助你。这个办法好像很好，以后的兄弟试试！！！

A：USC
B：me

A:This is Heather,who is that?
B:Oh,this is XXX speaking,How are you?
电话有延时，很不爽
A:................................大段废话，只知道她要叫Prof. Haw,the chairman听电话。

B：ok，I will hold the line,笑
A：ok，也笑

A(chairman):This is James Haw,
B：Nice to talk with you!(我有点紧张，打断了他说话)

A:Nice…… too，What's the weather of Beijing?
B:老问题，巴拉巴拉巴拉说

A:What research field do you want to choose in graduate……（反正是这个意思）
B:一开始听错了，以为他要我选教授，说了一通，发现不对，赶紧pardon了一次，才听明白，继续说………………（感觉很不爽，）

A:What other university you applied to?
B:爽，继续讲

A:又问这学期选了什么课，
B:还是老问题

A:你觉得什么课最interesting
B：废话，当然是实验课啦，然后说理由

A：说了一堆，没听清楚，好像是make a decision about your application 在什么时候，估计是前人问过这个问题。

B：en，ok

A:have other questions？
B：climate

A:warm……Los Angeles十分不错之类的话，还挺高兴的，呵呵
B:故作吃惊装，强调自己是南方人，喜欢这种气候。

A:…………，other questions？
B:How about the stipend of assistantship………………

A:说了一大段，没怎么听懂，好像在开始说了enough之类的话，
B:继续捣浆糊，然后提了一个advice，找些途径加强和PKU学生，老师间的交流比如…………

A:立马问是your idea or prof.……
B:……呆了n秒，说了，是俺的，但是也和老师讨论过这个问题

A:good，I will consider …………，and any questions？
B：no questions

A:好像又问了一遍，还是什么的，没听明白，
B:If I have other question,I will contact you……（好像蒙对了,老头挺高兴的）

A:最后提了一下他的感觉，还不错，嘻嘻，然后就客套话了
B:Thank you for calling and Merry Christmas

A:…………笑，……又说了一大段，ft，本以为他就结束了，不过，还好，终于听到了good bye!
B：bye，等他挂电话。

体会：
一开始还是有点紧张，后来就好了，语速要慢（前人有述），老头没有让我pardon，哦，对了，忘说了，是化学的系里面试，感觉就是考口语的。

标题: gf的duke面试

之前就已经给我offer，一天早上教授突然打电话来，一上来就congradulation!

give me a very very big surprise,接着又来了两封热情洋溢的信，本来以为总算可以有一个不用interview就来的offer，可又收到教授的信，说我这个方向的director也对我很enthusiasm,想call me,ft!

事先准备了几个题目：
1.research experience
2.what am i doing now
3.research interests
4.future career plan
5.the problems i want to ask her
6.一些问候性的和打圆场的话
说是10点左右打，结果等到11点没来。跑到信箱上一看，原来她把13个小时的时差当成了12个小时。
11点过一点的时候来了电话，深吸一口气接起来，打招呼问好是少不了的，可以缓和心情。接下来的气氛就一直很融洽，不过郁闷的是一直处于热烈的学术氛围中，和米国人谈学术难呀！而且她还是个米籍日本人，虽然口音不是很重，可是说话其快无比，比Toefl听力块多了，比我遇见的任何一个米人英人都要快，难懂呀！！！！而且上次UMichi面的时候，是个纯米国人，我一句sorry就让她把速度放下来了，这回彻底失灵，口若悬河呀！！！！：-(
幸好问题都能听懂，她侃我也侃，所以很愉快：-）后来她让我问问题，我问了些关于financial aid，course load ，average year of phd东东，她都回答的巨多无比，害得我又有好多没听懂。
后来她问我有没有申请别的学校，情况如何，我如实回答。听说Umi她立刻警觉起来，因为我们专业Umi比duke好，于是给我把Umi和duk

1) What will you study in the United States?
I will study Materials Science and Engineering in the university of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign.

2) What is your major? In what aspect of your major will you study? My current major is Chemistry, and my present specific field of study is Material Chemistry, which is also a branch of Materials Science. Material chemistry focuses on finding some new chemical synthesis methods and the relationship between the methods and the property of the materials.

what is your future specific major?
Well, materials science has a lot of branches, I'm very interested in my current research area, and will probably continue with it after I go to UIUC.

3) What will you do in USA?
I will study for my Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and engineering in the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. It may take me 5 to 7 years, then I will come back to china.

why will you finished you degree in five years?
Usually, for Ph.D. of engineering in UIUC, it will take us 7 years to finish our study. But a schoolmate of mine who is now studying in UIUC told me that if we work hard enough, we can finished our courses and research project in five years.
I hope I can finished my graduates study and get the degree in five years since I want to come back earlier to assist my father . he is not young and does need me to help him with his business as soon as possible.

why will you want to finish you degree in five years?
If I can finish my graduate study in five years, I will come back at a earlier time to carry on my father’s factory. anyway, my father is getting old, and he does need me to help him with his business as soon as possible.

4) Are you going to study in USA?
Yes. I will study for my Ph.D. degree in Material Science and Engineering in UIUC. I plan to finish my study in about 5-7 years and then come back to china.

5) When/where did you get your BS/MS?
I'll get my Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the beginning of this July form Peking University.

6) What/where are you studying now?
I am studying for my bachelor's degree in Chemistry in Peking University at present.

7) How long will you study in USA?
About 7years. If I work hard enough I can finished my study and get the degree in a shorter time.

8) Do you have any scholarship/financial aid?
Yes. The University of Illinois has offered me a position of research assistant. Besides the tuition waiver, I will get a monthly stipend of 1500 dollars during my graduate study.

9) What do you want to study in USA?
I want to study for my Ph.D. Degree in Materials Science and Engineering in the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. This program in UIUC ranks top 3 in the United States.

Why transfer your major?
Actually my present specific field of study is Material chemistry, it is also a branch of material science. (it is a interdisciplinary major between chemistry and material science) So my graduate major will be essentially the same as what I have studying now. would you like to my paper published on Chemistry of materials during my undergraduate research?

10) What do you do with your work for BS?
I have learned for more than 50 courses and carry on research work on my specific area.

what do you do with your work for Ph.D.?
In the first year, I will mainly take courses. Later I will join a research group that I am interested in to carry out research. I will try to finish my work and dissertation and get my degree in five years.

11) What is your purpose for the visa?
I need an F-1 visa in order to study for my Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering in UIUC.

12) What is your academic background?
I have been studied in the chemistry department of Peking University since 1997. I will get my bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the beginning of July. My interested area of study is Material Chemistry, which is a branch of Material Science. I have been doing research in this field for more than one year and published some papers. so I have built up some background in materials science. What I am doing now is try to synthesis some nanoscale materials.

13) How do you know this Univ.?
I knew UIUC from many channels such as US news because it is very famous for its school of Engineering. It has a top 3 graduate program in Material science and Engineering in the United States.

标题: 我的一点面试体验

今年申请形式确实很糟糕，尤其对于商学院的来说
我今年主要申请的是Operations Management和Management Science方向，一共12所，Management Information System方向2所，共14所，加上英国的2所。只有一个Offer， Austin的，另外UMich进了Finallist，但是在得知我有Austin之后，在4.15据我，可能人家本来就打算据我，呵呵。

因为我已经找了一个很好的工作作垫底，对方主管许诺年薪若干若干，大力鼓励我申请而且我出去目的还是很明确，就是想学习面向商业决策的数值优化方法，所以选择的学校偏好，反正出不去就算了，我不认为出去后慢慢转，拿好几个学位是明智的选择，至少对于我来说不适合。

我一共就三个面试机会，OSU，UMICH，另外一个由于个人原因，不足道。其中OSU是电话面试，因为非常早，似乎在春节我回家前就突击我，电话直接打到手机上，我当时手机在床上，床在空中(34#结构)，人在地上，爬上去看号码是一串零，还以为是mm或者国外的同学呢，很轻松的接了，没想到是个外国老头，口音很怪，还有点沙哑，突然意识到被突击了，但是没有准备啊，于是我大着胆子说，This is my mobile,there are some signals(//当时还是很机灵的吧，呵呵) in the line. Would you please dial my number of 86-10-6279XXXX after 5 minutes，对方说我知道呢，也没有叫我重说，一听就知道在看我的材料。5分钟后，电话真的过来了，然后我们舍友就看见我在大冬天里冒汗，虽然缓冲了一下，但是仍然非常紧张，真的没有任何准备，没想到这么早，答得一塌糊涂，尤其是教授问你本科(我本科是清华工科系的)数学基础还不错，但是为什么有一门Finite Element Analysis会那么低(67分)，我首先没有反应过来这么课程是什么，因为有限元我从来没有说过英语，一下子很不适应，他说了两遍我
才反应过来。然后我毫无防备之下的愚蠢回答决定了我被OSU拒的命运，我居然说，这是一门Introductory Course的选修课，大家都没有很重视blahblah....，坦率说，这确实是实话。然后教授说Ok, Any questions? 我说问了一下天气就挂了。春节来后，大约3月初就收到了OSU的拒信，后来师哥点评时说，我应该这样回答：这是一门高级课程，从来不对本科生开设，但是我仍然选择了它，而且即使只得60多分，对于清华里这样的高级课程已经是很高的分了.......

另外就是2月底的UMICH商学院的面试了，在OSU面试后，我总结了一下教训，春节后刚回校UMICH OM<
